Vehicles and heavy equipment used by the City of Asheville are set to be showcased at Truck City AVL, an event organized by Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR). The event will take place at Tanger Outlets Asheville on Saturday, April 12, from 1-4 pm. It is open to the public and free of charge.
D. Tyrell McGirt, APR Director, stated, “Truck City AVL is always a great time as we ‘pull back the curtain’ for community members to get an up close look at these fascinating machines.” He added that despite recent challenges due to Helene-related destruction, city staff felt it was important to host this community event.
The showcase will include vehicles from various city departments such as Fire, Parks & Recreation, Police, and Public Works. Attendees can expect to see a range of machinery including a patch truck, mowing deck, patrol vehicles, knuckle boom sweeper, excavator, bucket truck, bearcat among others. Other notable vehicles scheduled include Asheville Jeep Tour’s customized sightseeing Jeep and Carolina Ready Mix’s concrete pourer.
For those with sensory considerations like autism or PTSD, a quiet hour without horn honking is planned from 1-2 pm. Additionally, APR has arranged multiple activities in the Rec n Roll Mobile Play Zone for children and families.
Tanger Outlets Asheville serves as the venue for this event. Located at 800 Brevard Road in Asheville near I-40 & I-26 intersection; it features over 70 retailers and restaurants.
Asheville Parks & Recreation manages over 65 public parks and spaces throughout the city. Despite some areas being inaccessible due to recent destruction recovery efforts continue ensuring that residents have access to wellness programs across different age groups.
