The City of Asheville has engaged the Asheville Downtown Improvement District (ADID) to manage the newly established Business Improvement District after a detailed Request for Proposal (RFP) process. In line with its mission to boost the vibrancy and economic vitality of Downtown Asheville, ADID's Interim Board of Directors is now accepting nominations for those interested in joining the inaugural Board.
The selected board members will represent crucial sectors such as food and beverage, entertainment, hospitality, office, and retail. These representatives will be drawn from all four geographic districts within Downtown Asheville. The Board will oversee district operations, guide initiative implementation, and work to maintain downtown as an attractive destination for residents, businesses, and visitors.
ADID is handling the nomination process for the initial Board of Directors and will submit nominations to the Asheville City Council for review and approval. The Board intends to operate transparently by making applications publicly accessible and complying with North Carolina public records and open meetings laws as outlined in their proposal.
The BID Board will consist of various voting members: four commercial property owners, four business renters, three residential property owners, three residential renters, one representative from The Block, one from the Continuum of Care, and one at-large representative. Industry representation will cover food and beverage, entertainment, hospitality, office space management, and retail sectors.
Geographic representation includes areas northwest of Patton/Broadway covering Pritchard Park; southwest areas including South Slope; southeast regions like The Block; Eagle Street; S. Market Street; surrounding areas; northeast locations around Pack Square.
Ex Officio Membership comprises non-voting participants: one current member from Asheville City Council along with either the Asheville City Manager or designee plus Buncombe County Manager or their designee.
The Interim Board plans on reviewing applications before presenting a slate aligned with June's Council resolution approving district establishment.
Interested parties can learn more about how they might nominate themselves or others here. Nominations remain open until Thursday March 20th.
