Public safety is a collaborative effort that involves residents, business owners, and visitors. The thriving downtown community has been established through these collective endeavors. It is a shared commitment to create an environment that is safe and welcoming for everyone.

The public is encouraged to actively participate in this partnership by contributing to the safety and cleanliness of the downtown area. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that our community’s values and vision are reflected in the heart of our city.

In case of emergencies, including crimes in progress, dial 9-1-1. When communicating with a 911 dispatcher, remember to answer their first question: “Where is your emergency?” Be as specific as possible by providing an address or identifying landmarks around you if you don't know the exact location. Inform the dispatcher if anyone requires medical assistance and provide a description of the victim or perpetrator when possible.

For non-emergency situations or anonymous crime reporting, there are several options available:

- TIP2APD: This tool allows the public to anonymously share tips with police officers and establish a two-way anonymous conversation between the tipster and the detective. The smartphone application is free for iPhone and Android users.

- Asheville Police Department’s non-emergency number: (828) 252-1110.

- Online tips: These can be submitted through the Asheville Police Department’s Police to Citizen tool.

- Visit Asheville Police Department’s front desk located in the Municipal Building from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For issues involving city services or infrastructure such as parking concerns, traffic safety issues, sidewalk problems, missed trash or recycling pickup, water leaks, street light outages or requests for homeless assistance use The Asheville App.

For other concerns like restraining orders, noise complaints, graffiti, trespass letters, or complaints about the police, refer to the City of Asheville’s guide.

Additional resources are available for crime prevention guidance for businesses, support for issues related to homelessness, and City of Asheville crime data.
