Hiawassee St., situated between Rankin Ave. and N. Lexington, will remain closed until June 7 due to stormwater line replacement work. The stormwater crews are set to install a new system aimed at ensuring long-term functionality and reliability for stormwater management in the area.

Despite the ongoing construction work, all events at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville (HCCA) will proceed as scheduled. The HCCA website provides real-time updates on available parking and event-related street closures under its 'parking & directions' section.

The Stormwater staff is working in close collaboration with the HCCA staff to minimize any potential impact on the events.

The stormwater crews have been actively working since May 9 following heavy rainfall that significantly impacted the area. They have identified a substantial number of utility conflicts in the area, which has prevented them from reinstalling the line in its original location. As a result, they are currently considering rerouting and upgrading the line down Hiawassee St. to North Lexington.

The public's support and cooperation are appreciated as the crews expedite their work to minimize the duration of the closure.
