Ashley Haire appointed as Asheville's new transportation director

Asheville City Manager Debra Campbell has announced the appointment of Ashley Haire as the new Transportation Director for the city. Haire is set to begin her role on November 12, 2024.

Haire, originally from North Carolina, has an extensive background in transportation. She holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Doctorate in Transportation Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Her career spans 24 years and includes work in Complete Streets planning and design, highway design, transit operations, and climate adaptation. She is also a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina and six other states.

In her new position, Haire will manage all transportation functions within Asheville. This includes overseeing transit, parking, transportation planning, traffic engineering, and maintaining the city's commitment to developing a multimodal community.

“On behalf of the city, I am thrilled to welcome our new Transportation Director, Ashley Haire,” stated Debra Campbell. “I look forward to her leadership and the knowledge she will bring to our community.”

Haire expressed her enthusiasm about returning to North Carolina: “I am grateful to return home to North Carolina,” she said. “I look forward to working with the community to rebuild, equitably addressing the city’s transportation and mobility needs, and doing so in a way that is conscientious of Asheville’s future resilience.”
