Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) is preparing for a busy March with a variety of events and programs designed to celebrate the arrival of spring. Residents can expect an array of activities including sports, arts, and community gatherings.
Among the special events, pet owners are invited to dress their dogs for the Mardi Paws Costume Party & Adoption Day on March 1 and St. Waggy’s Day on March 15. Art enthusiasts can participate in Painting with Diamonds sessions throughout the month. Book lovers have weekly opportunities to join the Cozy Chapters Book Club.
Community engagement is encouraged through events like Oakley Community Closet on March 12, where participants can upcycle and swap items. Sports fans can enjoy the March Madness Charcuterie Board and ACC Tournament Watch Party on March 13. Competitive spirits are catered to with tournaments such as Southside Spades Tournament and Stephens-Lee Bingo on March 15, followed by Burton Street Outdoor Bingo on March 20.
For those interested in outdoor activities, walking clubs meet regularly while hiking groups explore local trails. Fitness beginners can learn about gym equipment at Intro to Fitness Center on March 20. Gardening enthusiasts have an opportunity to plan small-space gardens at Gardens 101 on March 26.
Children's programs include Youth Beginner Climbing starting March 3 and Petite Picassos art classes. Themed activities like Suessville Creations commence every Wednesday from March 5. School’s Out Park Days provide discovery projects on select dates, while Toddler Discovery Time offers imaginative play opportunities.
Families can engage in culinary adventures with Kids Cooking Classes or enjoy adult-only time during Kids Night In or Kids Night Out events.
Registration opens for several upcoming programs including summer camps, adult softball leagues, youth flag football, and Asheville-Buncombe Senior Games and SilverArts.
