Construction has commenced on the New Haw Creek Road sidewalk, a project aimed at enhancing pedestrian infrastructure in the Haw Creek neighborhood. The initiative will introduce approximately one mile of new sidewalk along a key thoroughfare and was identified as a priority during public consultations for the 2016 bond referendum.
The primary objective is to enhance mobility, safety, and connectivity for pedestrians, linking local schools and parks. This development will benefit users from Haw Creek Elementary School, Evergreen Community Charter School, Charlie Bullman Park, as well as residents and businesses in the area.
The construction is expected to last around 18 months. An early phase involves tree removal to meet a tree-clearing moratorium deadline intended to protect a local bat species.
During construction, temporary lane closures will occur. Efforts will be made to minimize traffic disruptions during peak times such as school drop-off and pick-up hours. Signage and detours will guide traffic safely around the site.
Noise from construction activities is anticipated but will be managed to reduce disruption. Residents should expect the presence of construction machinery like excavators, pavers, and trucks and are advised to maintain a safe distance from these vehicles.
Regular updates on the project's progress will be shared via email with subscribers on the project page.
