In observance of Veterans Day, the City of Asheville will close its offices on Monday, November 11, 2024. A ceremony to honor veterans is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. The keynote speaker will be Sa’eed Mustafa, a retired US Army member who served in the Gulf War and completed two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is also a Bronze Star recipient and author of 'Resilient Translation'. The event's video will be available on the City of Asheville YouTube channel at 3 p.m.

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) buses will operate on their regular schedule and continue to offer free rides to community members. Trash and recycling collection services will proceed as usual, with debris collection contractors working during daylight hours. However, the Sanitation office itself will be closed.

Parks and greenways are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., though some locations remain closed due to recent storm damage. Community centers and administrative offices are closed but plan to resume regular activities on November 12 after postponing programs for recovery efforts.

The Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville will not open on Veterans Day, while the WNC Nature Center remains closed because of access road damage caused by Tropical Storm Helene. In contrast, the Aston Park Tennis Center and Asheville Municipal Golf Course will maintain normal hours.

Emergency services including police, fire, and emergency response teams will operate continuously throughout the holiday. Water resources staff are available for emergencies around the clock, with customers advised to call 828-251-1122 for assistance with water-related issues.
