The City of Asheville has announced an Open House event for the public to view the design of the Coxe Avenue Streetscape Project. The event is scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bear’s Smokehouse Barbeque.
The project aims to improve safety and user experience on Coxe Avenue for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. Currently, it is in the design phase, which is nearly halfway complete. The project team seeks community input on public amenities and loading zone needs to balance project goals with potential property impacts.
Community members attending the Open House will see how their input from the South Slope Vision Plan process has been incorporated into the current design.
The Open House details are as follows:
- **When:** Monday, March 24, 2025, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- **Where:** Bear’s Smokehouse Barbeque at 135 Coxe Avenue
Planned improvements include high-visibility crosswalks, trees and ground cover, pedestrian lighting, water main replacement, upgraded stormwater infrastructure, a continuous sidewalk, a dedicated bike lane, and an elevated roadway section between Banks Ave and Buxton Ave.
Project representatives will be present to answer questions and collect feedback during the event. Those unable to attend can still participate by completing a short survey.
The design phase is expected to conclude in late 2025 with construction slated to begin in 2026. Regular updates will be provided via email for those subscribed on the project page.
